The acute concerns around rising unemployment, especially amongst the young (in the context of the global recession), have sharpened focus on how we prepare young people for the world of work. This report investigates this reality, focusing on the large group of school-level learners who do reasonably well in school but do not become self-motivated, self-directed learners. They may appear to succeed in a highly-controlled, assessment-driven environment but struggle when left to their own devices in university, or when looking for a job.
