I absolutely agree, but the older generation needs to accept that Millennials do things differently and there may be some surprises. Successful transitions seem to involve early exposure of the next generation to what the foundation/trust is doing and why, and to be mentored into a position of influence with plenty of support and encouragement, but without being patronised. The young have much to offer and we need to ensure that their idealism and energy is harnessed positively in a way that will refresh and reinvigorate the organisation. Issues which are important to Next Gen'ers may not be those that current trustees/philanthropists focus on, but I would suggest this is a healthy and necessary reflection on our changing world and the need to stay relevant.
